How to get over the autumn depression

I don’t like autumn. Let’s get that out of the way. Ok, scratch that. I like autumn when it’s sunny and all the trees in my hometown are colorful and the birds are singing… yeah that’s beautiful. Though autumn in the city where I go to university is basically none. No colorful trees, no beautiful sunsets, but it rains there a lot which is totally not good. Especially when you have to go to school in that weather. Since my semester has started a month ago and I feel like the melancholy is getting the best of me, I decided to name all those lovely things about autumn so I could feel less awful and I could actually enjoy this season.

Ok, I must say that the scents of candles are getting better with autumn. They are getting heavier and honestly, pumpkin spice and cinnamon are my favourite. It’s getting cozy in my bedroom, especially when I light the candle, snuggle in my bed with a good book and don’t have to care about anything… which is never.
Who doesn’t like tea? I mean it’s literally a coziness and comfort in a mug with delicious scent and taste. I’m a huge tea lover as you can tell and with autumn as the weather starts getting colder I can take out my collection of teas and drink them all day long. Everything is better with a tea. Especially reading a book. Or working on a school project. Or writing diploma thesis. Or watching TV shows… you see? Tea goes with everything. Oh, I love it so much. Currently I’m obsessing over green tea with mint and raspberries, it’s sooooo good.
Autumn is the season when the weather gets colder and I don’t like it, but big soft sweaters make it waaaay better, am I right? You just pull the sleeves over your fingers, put on a soft scarf and you’re good to go. Ok, maybe throw on a jacket, depending on where you live because I don’t want you to get ill. Oh and pair them with yoga pants or leggings – it’s the most comfortable outfit for when you have lecture. I do it all the time.
Who else loves running through a pile of fallen leaves?! Ok, maybe I don’t hate this season so much when I’m on number four. This just screams autumn and childhood for me. The smell of the leaves, the colors and the satisfying sound when you go through them… it’s amazing.
I go through periods when I love skirts and dresses. Mostly I wear flowery patterns or just a black skater skirts but autumn is the season when I take out my tartan skirts and I’m basically living in them. I think they look amazing paired with converse or boots and a jean jacket. Literally my outfit throughout the September. And on top of that, autumn is perfect time to switch from the bright lipstick colors to the dark ones. Make up makes me genuinely happy and with my skin complexion and berry lipstick, I can pretend I’m a Snow White.
As much as I love being woken up by sunlight, foggy mornings are just glorious. I don’t love waking up at seven in the morning in autumn and winter because it’s still dark outside, but I make the effort because the moment when I make my tea, snuggle up in my bathrobe and chill on my balcony is just so peaceful. The cold is biting into the skin and the fog surrounding you makes the sunrise out of this place. On top of that, I live on the highest floor so the view is breathtaking.

Let's talk: What's your favorite thing about autumn/fall? Are you tea or coffee person? Do you like watching sunrises?

  2. This is a lovely list, dear friend. Autumn is actually one of my favourite seasons, mainly for the reasons you describe here - I so adore dark lips & oversized sweaters & waking up to fog rolling over and enveloping the hills. There is nothing cosier, I think. All the same, I know it can be tough for those who don't enjoy the constant rain and grey skies as much, and I hope that these soft warm things are enough to make up for it. Sending love your way as autumn approaches. xx

    1. Oh thank you for your lovely comment. I must admit that autumn and winter are the coziest of the seasons which is amazing and it can make up for the constant rain. :)

  3. It's so interesting because we're going into spring right now, and my body is like yaaaas warmth! But I still love candles and leaves and tea so hopefully it doesn't get hot too quickly.
